Summary: Grand Valley State University’s Seymour and Esther Padnos College of Engineering and Computing (PCEC) invites applications for the position of Network Systems Engineer. The Administrative Professional position will oversee the Linux server, desktop, software, network, and database administration/support for areas supported by the High Performance Computing technology team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, computing related field preferred
  • Experience with Linux server, network, and desktop administration
  • Experience with VMWare virtual server and networking administration
  • Knowledge of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, OracleDB, or similar
  • Ability to compile and deploy custom packages across a network

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with remote user support (SSH, X2go, xRDP, or similar)
  • Experience with OpenLDAP administration
  • Experience with managing web servers (HTTP Apache, NginX, or similar)
  • Knowledge of Linux Automation Tools (Ansible, Python, Chef, Puppet, or similar)
  • Knowledge of network stack security and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with Windows and Macintosh operating systems and support 

Responsibilities - Essential Functions:

  • Administration of CIS/HPC Linux workstations and servers
  • Support current custom software solutions in CIS/HPC environment with HPC technology team
  • Manage Linux software updates, system security, and account administration
  • Primary contact for the School of Computing and Information Systems for HPC technology team
  • Oversee and administer hardware/software for all CIS computing labs on Allendale campus
  • Support various server services (website, intranet, mail server, NTP, firewall, OpenLDAP, CUPs, and more) within CIS/HPC domains
  • Assist HPC technology team to administer Linux virtual server in Hyper-V, VMWare ESXi, and VMWare Horizon
  • Assist CIS/HPC users remotely connecting to the Linux systems
